Event Details

Imago Foundation for the Arts (IFA) will present a screening featuring some of Rhode Island’s video art pioneers on Thursday, April 11 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Imago Gallery, 36 Market Street, Warren. This program is free and open to the public.
Video as an art medium was embraced by artists in the late 1960s when technological advances made the equipment smaller, lighter, and accessible to the average person. Nurtured by the Rhode Island School of Design and inspired by a lively art scene, Rhode Island was home to some of the pioneers of video art such as Duff Schweninger, an independent video artist and currently an IFA exhibiting artist, and the founding members of Providence-based group Electron Movers which included Laurie McDonald, Alan Powell, Dorothy and Bob Jungels and Dennis Hlynsky, who explored the medium’s potential.
IFA’s screening celebrates the early works of Electron Movers and moves the viewer in time to current digital works of Schweninger and Hlynsky. Electron Movers artists Hlynsky and Alan Powell, as well as Schweninger, will be present to comment on their work and answer viewers’ questions.
IFA is a non-profit organization run by artists for artists whose mission is to inspire creativity and promote art-making that enriches our communities.
