August 25 is drop-off for 'Dare to Create’ at Imago

August 25 is the physical drop off date for Dare to Create, Imago Foundation for the Arts’ (IFA’s) open call to Rhode Island K-12 art educators on exhibit August 29 – October 5.

To speed up the submission process, applicants may fill in their information on-line at: https://www.imagofoundation4art.org/dare-to-create-submission-form. Manual submissions on August 25 will also be accepted.

The submission fee is $10 for up to three artworks. Cash prizes totaling $500 will be awarded. A portion of proceeds from this exhibit will help support the IFA John Udvardy Scholarship Fund for Mt. Hope High School graduates pursuing a career in the arts.

The exhibit will be held at Imago Gallery from August 29 – October 5 to showcase the artworks of RI art educators and to honor the late Carole Villucci, a valued mentor and advocate for generations of art teachers in Rhode Island and a much-loved member of the IFA community.

During her 25-year career with the RISD museum, Villucci served as Associate Curator of Education for teacher and docent programs, and Education Lead at the RISD Museum. Additionally, she served as Adjunct Faculty at RISD in the Department of Teaching Learning in Art Design, and in Rhode Island College’s Department of Art Education.

Because Villucci’s art practice was all-embracing, involving an intense exploration of image-making that ranged from painting, collage, and drawing to sumi-e ink, IFA welcomes Rhode Island K-12 art teachers to submit artworks in all mediums, except video or screen work, for this exhibit. Cash awards will be presented by Villucci’s family.

The deadline for all submissions is Sunday, August 25, 2024. Work must be hand-delivered to Imago Gallery, 36 Market Street, in Warren, on Sunday August 25 from noon – 3 p.m. Pick-up at the end of the exhibit is on Sunday, October 6 from noon – 3 p.m.
